Jui-Jitsu

Jui-Jitsu

When you practice jiu-jitsu, you will learn a ton of different moves! These moves include sweeps, takedowns, and submissions. A sweep is used to move your opponent so that you can move to a better position. A take-down is used to take your opponent to the ground. Finally, submissions are a type of movement that include wrist locks, armbars, and chokes.

In jiu-jitsu, there are many types of belts. You might be wondering, “How do I get a belt?” Well, to get a belt, all you have to do is go to practice and work hard! There are many different belts: white, gray, yellow, orange, green, blue, purple, brown, and black. The white belt is the very first belt you get, and the black one is the last. Finally, stripes are used to raise your belt rank before getting the next belt. You need 4 stripes to get to the next belt.

A tournament is a competition where you try to get the most points by using the moves you learn. The Sunflower Games is an affordable and yearly tournament. Many people go there each year. Some other tournaments you can go to are Fuji BJJ and Tap Cancer Out. To prepare for a tournament, you need to practice your favorite moves so that you can use them while participating in the tournament.

Now that you know a lot about jiu-jitsu, you should check out Louisburg Jiu-Jitsu on a Tuesday or Thursday! (if you’re interested of course, nobody is forcing you to)
